A major benefit of her going to a school that is only one hour away is that it's easy for me to run up there and spend an afternoon with her from time to time. Yesterday was one of those days. Love getting my Katie fix! I miss her so much and miss having her home. I really miss when she would come home from school in the afternoons and sit at my studio table and we would talk about everyday things; her friends, stuff at school, boys. sigh. Now, we do that via facetime. Thank God for facetime. I can't imagine what it was like for my parents...with long distance phone bills and no cell phones or facebook. Unless something came up, i often only talked to them once a week!
I stopped at The Flying Cupcake and picked up something yummy for Katie and her roomie/BFF on the way.
We had an actual mission for this meet up. Katie's art was selected to be in an undergrad gallery show at school and i had to get the chosen piece framed for her.
This pinecone was done entirely in ball point pen. Yup. Ball point pen. Ahhhhhmazing. She blows me away!
We took it to the gallery where they were collecting the works for the show and when we got there, we found out that two more of her pieces have been selected to be in another spring show at Westwood...the same place her fall show was. I tell you, this girl is going places. We just could not be any prouder. And the thing is...as beautiful as her art is...her heart is even more so.
We grabbed some celebratory lunch. We never run out of things to talk about.
Time always flies when we are together. And it doesn't matter if we know that we will see each again really soon...we always tear up when it's time to say good-bye.
I am blessed. i love you, Katelyn Joy.
that Katie is a ROCK STAR!
