Translation from Italian: my family
For most of my adult life, our family (parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins) lived within a one mile radius. We would gather for every birthday, every holiday, or for no particular reason at all. We were together all the time and to be honest, looking back, we took it for granted. Two years ago that all changed when my sister Kim remarried and moved to Georgia with her kids. It's been an adjustment for everyone and makes the times when we do all come together, so much sweeter. Last week was one of those times.
It was a long weekend of love, loudness, cocktails and food. But, more than anything, it was a lot of this...
laughing. the kind of laughing that makes tears stream down your face and tests a 40-something-woman's bladder control.
When we get in these slap happy rants together, we always say "nobody thinks we're as funny as we think we are!" But, everyone has those inside family jokes, right? and, oh my gosh...we were on a roll...
For three days we gathered at our house and feasted on love and good grub...
like mom's famous macaroni & meatballs...
andy's smoked bbq pork, Greek Tony's pizza, Bagel Fair bagels and these homemade chocolate chip cookie and coffee ice cream sandwiches...
It was chaos. Good chaos. We are not a soft spoken clan. We were 11 adults, 8 kids and 3 dogs...
There was video gaming, nerf gun war-ing and not a single time-out (i think we're oficially out of that phase!)
above all...we were together again...
and it was wonderful. Can't wait to do it again. I love you, my peeps.
