How does your family road trip? We've driven this trip to the beach for many, many years. We pretty much pull out of our driveway and point the van south until we see the ocean. Our kids have become seasoned travelers and we all actually look forward to the 12 hour journey...for the most part. They've got it all figured out. The best way to pass the time is to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
or watch a movie. man, if only my family station wagon had a DVD player in it when we were driving 22 hours to Cape Cod every year when i was a kid...
you can always watch out the window for the familiar landmarks along our route...
i spied this truck up ahead and told mark to catch up to it! As if i could have pulled up along side and held my coffee cup out the window and filled up from the road???? Turns out it was just a gas tanker with an ad on the back. Such a tease for this bleary eyed mama.
and everyone LOVES to stop at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. We stop at the same one in Tennessee every year. It's a family road trip tradition.
then more zzzzzzzzzzzzzz's to sleep off the french toast and bacon....
everyone gets a little punchy about 3/4 through the trip. close quarters. tired of sitting. time to get rowdy, bug your siblings and make your parents crazy...
is this what your car trips look like? Just wonderin'...
This looks pretty accurate with the addition of the following: more stuff, if you can see out the rear window you're underpacked, sketchy restroom stops (South of the Border in SC was the WORST), and lots of bickering about legroom. Add to that two parents that are not good passengers and you've got a Bowles family road trip ;-)! Glad you had a great week at the beach, it's a wonderful family tradition!!
PS Considering the amount of 11hr. plus road trips we've taken over the years, my kids actually do really well in the car. Me, I'm still working on being able to nap while Bob drives!
