My name is Lori McDonough and i have an addiction to chairs. I am drawn to them everywhere i go. It's like they're magnetized or something. I swear, it's like they find me. I love LOVE seeing a beat up chair at a garage sale or thrift shop and daydreaming right then and there about what a good coat of paint and a little imagination can do for it. I found this sweet old chair at a barn sale about 4 years ago.
It has been sitting in a corner of our sun porch with crap piled on top of it for so long. But, we made plans...this chair and I, long ago. I knew when i bought it, because of the deep crack down the center of the seat, that he was destined for my garden.
Spray primer is handy dandy for jobs like this.
I just used some leftover latex paint that i had and handlettered the "hello". Then I clear coated it three times, so it will withstand the elements and sprinklers.
I wanted to put a flower pot on the seat, but it covered up the "hello", so i need to find a shorter container.
Then i saw what my clever friend, Jen Bowles, did with chairs in her garden. I adore both plant containers and am going to "borrow" her creative deas! Genius...a collander and a clementine crate!
i have about 4 more miscellaneous chairs in my garage, calling my name. I hope to get a few more done this summer! You'll be the first to know when I do!
Love your Hello chair Lori (and thanks for the sweet shout-out <3)! I can totally relate to your chair addiction, it's hard for me to pass one up! There's a set of four chairs in someone's front yard with a 'free' sign on them that I've driven by at least 10 times in the last week or so. My resistance is weakening :-). I don't think the idea of a chair garden is totally far-fetched... Hope you're having a great week at the beach!
