Friday we celebrated my husband's birthday. Our entire family lives right here in our hometown, so our standing birthday family tradition is that for everyone's birthday, we all gather after dinner on their bday night for dessert. The birthday person chooses the dessert. Mark had a very specific dessert request and that was to make homemade Orange Julius! Have you ever had an Orange Julius?
I honestly don't know if it's known nation wide or if it's only a regional thing. We have an Orange Julius stand at our mall and you can get Orange Julius' at our state fair. If you have never had one, it's a thick, frothy, orange whipped drink. So, i searched the internet for recipes and found the recipe that's from this series of books...
It was incredibly easy and everyone loved it. Here's the recipe...
Combine the following ingredients in a blender on high speed for 30 seconds...
1 1/4 cups orange juice, 1 cup milk, 1 t. vanilla extract, 1/4 cup sugar, 3 T. egg whites (i know...that one has an "ewww" factor, but it's what makes the drink frothy and you wont taste it.) The book recipe calls for 1 cup water instead of the milk, but i used milk to make it creamier.
voila! Orange Julius...
This is a picture of Mark when he was 9 months old. It's my very favorite baby picture of him.
I like to think that he is smiling so big because it was taken on the day i was born in Sept. 1969 (even though we wouldn't meet until 12 years later and i don't really know what day in September it was taken. That's just a technicality ♥)
happy birthday, Sweets. I love you. xo
Lori, A friend of mine just recently gave me her recipe for an Orange Julius. It's yummy and it has no eeww (egg whites) in it.
6 oz. frozen o.j. concentrate (just cut the tube in half with a sharp knife and save the rest for later or make a double batch)
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla and 10 ice cubes. Blend until smooth, pour in cups and top with whipped cream. Yummy and easy!!
