ok, i know you have been waiting with bated breath since we left our hero in distress...
Relax...G lived to tell the tale of how he slayed the creature in the woods! Such a silly boy.
The next stop on our hunt for the letterboxes was the Indianapolis Art Center in Broad Ripple. Such a great community art center.
It had been a while since my last visit...especially to the grounds, called the Artspark. I think everytime i've been there it's been for a festival of some kind and there are so many people there that i haven't been able to really see all the great art there, inside & out. Allow me to show you around this inspiring place...
This is how a 9 year old gets hands on with this art installation.
These balls of twigs were nestled in all of the trees. There were white twinkle lights and even some candles in them. So pretty.
The twisted house, by artist John McNaughton...
even the flowers in the window box are made of wood!
We ventured inside to find some amazing creative art. From afar this piece, titled "Blankie" by artist Nnenna Okore, looked like a fabric loomed textile piece. It was gorgeous.
It was actually made of rolled up glossy magazine pages! Amazing, right?!
K loved this butterfly made of salvaged garbage...so incredibly creative! I wish i had written down this artist's name. Just awesome!
Finally, this blew us all away. "Crayon Boy" by artist, Christian Faur.
The portrait is made of CRAYONS!!!!!!!! Whoa! I know, right?!!!!!!!!!
So, find out where your closest community art center or art museum is in your neck of the woods and take your family. I think people are sometimes intimidated by art...museums...galleries. Don't be. Sure, there will be art that you simply "don't get"...happens to me all the time...just move on to the next piece...that's what art is all about. You will come across pieces that really do speak to you...LOUDLY and you will "get it".
Explore the art in your community...don't take it too seriously...have fun with it. Be inspired! who knows...you might just find a letterbox along the way!!!! :-)
xo, Lori
Whew! So happy G conquered the creature! The letterboxes at the Arts Center were some of our favorites!

What a great place (Arts Center) with some really cool art--love that butterfly too! Looks like a lot of fun, something we'd (and I mean me, I'll have to convince the rest of the bunch;-) ) would like to try.
