The most we've had is a dusting so far. Christmas break without a single snow day was a big bummer. No white Christmas for us...we got rain and fog. Yuck! When all of the holiday decorations came down, the studio seemed so barren. So, a post I found on Kimberly's blog, completely inspired me to create our own winter wonderland. I e-mailed Kimberly for some tips and instructions and after lots of failed attempts, i finally figured it out. It was so simple {I guess I'm just a little slow on the uptake}. I thought this would be a great DIY tutorial for everyone. So, here you go!
Supplies that you will need:
Step 1: fold your paper in half so that it forms a triangle...
Step 2: Fold it in half again, making another smaller triangle...
Step 3: Fold it once more, in half...
Step 4: Press down on the creases, making them crisp...
Your paper will look like this:
Be careful, as you begin to cut out your snowflake, not to completely cut these two sides, or you will cut your snowflake completely in half...
Step 5: Begin to cut your snowflake now in any way to your liking. The longer side of your triangle will become the 4 longest points on your flake...
Step 6: Experiment with different shapes and cuts. You may even want to try decorative scissors with different edges...
Step 7: This side of the triangle that I cut, will become the outside edge of my snowflake.
Step 8: Now, I want to create a design in the center of the snowflake, so I will cut a design on the pointed side of the triangle, being careful not to completely lose my edges on the sides...I cut 2 tiny half circles on one side and one half of a heart on the other side.
Finally, the really fun part...it's time to open up your creation to see what you've made...
Ta-da!!!!!...
Then, when you get a bunch done, you can use the white thread and tape them to the ceiling en masse. This was a fun family project that everyone helped with. I hope to save these from year to year and add to them just like Kimberly does. It's kind of addicting...you won't be able to make just one! Hmmm...i think the chance for snow just went up!
* A big hug to K, my hand model, who was not happy that I didn't give her the chance to touch up her manicure before our little photo shoot. :-)
Sister...your "crafts" must have sent some snow energy into the universe because we got us a bit today don't we?!?!? Not a ton but enough to look pretty today and a slushy mess tomorrow!! Haha! xo, mik

Awesome snowflake shapes and a great tutorial! Here in MA, we haven't seen the bare ground since I can't remember when. And good news--6-10 more inches on the way this weekend. Luckily my kids are all enjoying it by sledding in the front yard every afternoon : )
Have a great weekend!

You've become a master snowflake maker!!! These are amazing and I really love how you demonstrated the process. They're all perfectly lovely. My snowflakes are still up, it's hard putting them away knowing how bear it will look once they're gone. It's encouraging to know I inspired you. Thanks, you're a pal, Kim

Yours look so good! My snowflakes always stink but seeing how yours looks folded I think I'll give it another try. No snow here in NC, either, so I like the thought of making my own.
