I made these for the show. You might have spied them in the picture of my tent from the show. They (the originals...which is rare for me) will be in my etsy shop later today. They are acrylics on canvas board with collaged painted acrylic paper pieces.
Yes, that is a real $5 dollar bill. Several people at the show told me it is illegal to destroy US money and teased me about the feds coming after me.
I did some research about it after, and from what I can find, it's only a real crime if you manipulate it or cut it up in an attempt to pass it off as more valuable than it is...like trying to turn a $5 into a $50. Somebody said "why didn't you make a photocopy of it and cut that up?" But, it turns out, that's even more illegal... Honestly, i didn't even think about it being illegal until after i had it done and Mark said something to me about it. Although, i do have to say that it felt strange cutting it up...a little bit naughty. Not because it's illegal, but because i don't exactly have money to burn {or cut up!}. I sacrificed for my art...won't do it again, officer, i promise.
