I'm just a girl who loves being a mom and wife. I am also a freelance illustrator who loves to paint, draw and craft. Whimsy studios is the fusion of my need for a creative outlet and the inspiration that comes from my whimsical life.

I'm late. Lori hasn't gotten her the-kids-are-back-in-school groove back yet. I'm still trying to find my rythmic balance between school, homework, creative life, book illustrating, housekeeping, carpooling etc... I've been dying to do a Yellow Monday installment...it's been wayyyy too long since the last Yellow Monday and I just had to post these while it's still summer. I ♥ yellow...
Mark gave me this purse for our anniversary in June.
It reminds me of the beanbag chairs that my sisters and I used to have in the 70's...it's vinyl and yummy. And...my secret shopper (my sister Kim) tipped Mark off to it after I drooled all over it in the clearance aisle in Target. How much do we love Target? and secret shopper sisters? Double love!
Lemonheads in the kitchen canister...bright and cheery!
I found these nesting bowls at Old Time Pottery in Alabama. Yellow+polka dots+stripes = love
We cheered on my favorite gearhead (my Dad) at our local Corvette Car Show a few weekends ago. More about that in an upcoming blog post. I spied this cutie from across the field. If I drove a Corvette, it would be this color. I mean, honestly, why can't they make mini vans in this color? I was smitten after we got closer and saw the front license plate...the car and I will both be celebrating the same milestone birthday this year!
Did anyone else spy these cool pepsi aluminum bottles this summer at Walmart?!
I'm a Diet Coke girl, but I just had to buy this pepsi! Here's a picture of them all...
My book....we took a break this summer from working on book #2 and we are now fully immersed in it. I missed these little characters...Getting to the Heart of Respect is on the way! Stay tuned for more details! xo
The song "yellow" by Coldplay. Loving it! Listen and watch the video here. Brilliantly simple and lovely video.
Hi y'all! That's how we speak down in the deep south! :-D Greetings from Gulf Shores, Alabama! We are staying down here in my parent's lovely vacation condo...this is the view from our balcony:
Here's the view from my beach chair!:
This is where I'm blogging from right now...a cute little wi-fi hotspot cafe overlooking the beach...
I really do wish you all could be relaxing down here like I am, so I thought I would share with you my vacation playlist. I put this cd together a few years ago before our vacation (before I even had an ipod, which makes everything easier) and we add to it each year.
So, grab these tunes from itunes, go get your flip flops on, mix yourself up a margarita and lay back on your deck with the one you love. Here are a few of our favorite picks to put you in a vacation state of mind...
I feel like I should have known about this a looooooooooooong time ago. But, I just discovered it on Monday (thank you, Jody!!!!). It's a website called Pandora and it's crazy cool. It's Internet radio and it's free. You tell the website a favorite artist or song and it will put together a play list or a "station" as they call it, based on that particular artist's style or song style. Then, it will play the play list from your computer as long as you want to listen. You can create up to 100 "stations" and they will save them for you. You have got to try it! You know how some days you're in a slow, mellow mood and other days, you're super upbeat and fast paced? Pandora creates a soundtrack for your mood! My music tastes are all over the place...I love country, top 40, classic rock, mellow folk rock. I've heard so many great new artists and songs this week that I never knew existed. And if you love a song, you can quick link over to itunes from Pandora to purchase it. I just had to share with you all my new favorite thing! xo

What is it? TTV stands for Through The Viewfinder. It's the art of taking photographs with one camera through the lens of another camera. It produces that dreamy vintage look that I'm crazy about. I am going to experiment with this over the summer. I can't wait!
I know, you know I love her to bits. She has really slowed down lately...struggling to go up the stairs and breaking my heart when she attempts to jump up on my bed, but doesn't quite make it and falls backwards. She is my fourth child, my shadow, constant companion. She waits by the door for me when I leave (even when everyone else is home) and is overjoyed when I come home. I heart this sweet face.
K's closet door...
She loves to collage...has been doing it for years. She devours magazines with her scissors; clipping anything inspirational and fun and funky typography. She worked on this collage for months and months.
My new dotty coffee mug that I found at CVS! for $1.99!!!!!! It instantly puts me in a good mood in the morning.
Available in her Etsy shop here. It's so me. Drool.
This song, "You and I"by Ingrid Michaelson and Jason Mraz. Listen to it here. I loved it the very first time I heard it. It fits Mark and I to a T. We might not have any money, honey, but we're rich in love. I first heard it on Mati Rose's blog (who, by the way shares my last name, but is of no relation). I dare you not to love it, too.
Happy Friday, friends! Get out there and enjoy the sunshine!
My daughter made this the other night while she was listening to her ipod. I used to do the exact same thing...always doodling on whatever paper was in front of me. On the phone. On my papers during class. On my jeans. etc... Anyway, she was inspired by Taylor Swift's new song "Love Story". I just love her writing style and wanted to share!
I spent the day today at G's school painting scenery for the school play. Mark, the kids, and my 2 nephews came with me. K and a couple of her friends needed some community service hours for National Jr. Honor Society, so i put them to work. The boys ran around the gym while we painted. Each character is actually about 5 feet tall and painted on some stacked refrigerator boxes. It took all day, but we finished. With my crazy schedule right now, i wasn't sure i could find time to do it again this year. But, when the music teacher told me that this year's musical was "Schoolhouse Rock", i just had to do it. I grew up watching Schoolhouse Rock every Saturday morning and LOVED it!!!!! So, we had fun today painting together.
