I'm just a girl who loves being a mom and wife. I am also a freelance illustrator who loves to paint, draw and craft. Whimsy studios is the fusion of my need for a creative outlet and the inspiration that comes from my whimsical life.

When I got the IF topic for the week, immediately i thought of the worries I have as a parent. The saying goes: "Deciding to have a baby is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body". This is so profoundly true.
For this week's IF, i was inspired by my daughter who will be graduating from 8th grade this week and will officially become a high schooler. I still cannot wrap my brain around it...so, imagine how my heart feels.
Kids really know how to eat watermelon. There is no regard for the juices that drip down their chins and necks and arms. They don't care that there are 3 seeds stuck to their face or that their mom will never be able to get the stains out of their shirt. They just know how yummy it is. It's pure summertime joy.
And, by the way, who's idea was it to create seedless watermelon anyway? First of all, it's nowhere near as sweet as seeded watermelon. And, secondly, what fun is eating watermelon if there isn't the challenge of not swallowing a seed for fear you might grow a watermelon in your belly? Sheesh!
Ok, yes, this is a self-portrait. When I got the IF topic of the week; wrinkles, i immediately thought of my own that are suddenly appearing on my almost 40 year old face. This may come across as a rant, but actually, there's nothing else in the world that makes me as happy as being a soccer mom, and a baseball mom and a cross-country mom...and a...well, you get the picture. My wrinkles and gray hair are hard-earned. One final confession...yes...I shaved 50 pounds off my hips and thighs. You gotta love a little thing called artistic licence.
Debbie didn't really need to make a call. She just wanted the girls to see her talking on her new cell phone. "They will be soooooooo jealous", she thought to herself!
As a parent of a teen and a tween, i am constantly being schooled in the latest technology and trends. So, when i read that primitive was the IF subject this week, i instantly thought of how my kids think that growing up in the 80's was primitive.
This is my very first submission for Illustration Friday. It is a website that is a weekly illustration challenge. Every Friday a topic is posted (which is selected from participant's e-mail suggestions) and then participants have all week to come up with their own interpretation using any type of medium they choose. It's a great exercise to get your creative juices flowing. I'm going to challenge myself to participate weekly and i'll post my submissions here. This weeks topic is FAIL. If you go to www.illustrationfriday.com you can see other's submissions, too.
